Actually this is a difficult issue. In almost all circumstances a graphic description is not required, but on occasion it may become necessary. Unfortunately there is not much of a range of options. I&#039;ve managed to get away with &quot;old chap&quot; so far, but I don&#039;t think that will cut the mustard (or gentleman&#039;s relish, perhaps) in a more serious work. Each word, as you point out, has its own connotations.</description>
