I think this is one of the most extraordinary things I’ve seen lately. I take it that most of us have seen “The Phantom Menace”, right? And I also take it that we all thought it was quite horrifically bad? This extraordinary 70 minute film analyses exactly why it was so bad, in meticulous, point-by-point detail. It’s worth watching alone just for the sequence where various people are asked to describe some of the characters from “A New Hope” and “The Phantom Menace” – without referring to either their appearance or their rĂ´le.
It’s in seven ten-minute sections. Warning: you will watch the first one out of curiosity and then end up watching the whole thing. So set aside 70 minutes first, and don’t do it in the middle of a working day like I did last week. Oh, and another warning: there is some strong language and some of the humour is exceptionally dark. But if you watch it, you will learn a lot about screenwriting. Trust me on this.
